The six collaborating Academic Networks for Elderly Care (SANO) launched a ‘’Kennisagenda voor de langdurige ouderenzorg’’ in 2022. An update of this ‘’Kennisagenda’’ is published annually during the SANO Science Day. In the new edition of October 2024, three new themes have been added to the ‘’Kennisagenda’’. It concerns the themes of dementia at a young age, Interprofessional collaboration and Shared decision-making.

Last Monday, 26th of November, was marked by a large protest on the “monstrous” pending budget cuts imposed by the new Dutch goverment. Patients are getting older while at the same time undergoing increasingly intensive treatments. This brings up the concept of physical resilience – the ability to recover and adapt after health-related stressors such as surgery or chemotherapy. Identifying physical resilience in older patients may enable more personalized treatment plans, ultimately allowing for better recovery and improved functional outcomes. The first step, however, is being able to measure physical resilience, which is the goal of the TOPFORM study.

Jasmin Keller and other researchers from the LUMC and Iceland found that the shape of white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), white matter brain lesions visible on MRI scans, is linked to the risk of dementia and the progression of cerebrovascular disease in older adults.
