How do healthcare professionals collaborate effectively in long-term care (LTC) and geriatric rehabilitation (GR)? And how can this collaboration be measured? Researcher Arno Doornebosch and his team conducted a review study on this topic. They examined which factors facilitate or hinder collaboration, and which questionnaires or measurement tools are used to assess it.

The study identified three key themes:

  1. How well the team works together
  2. How the organization is structured
  3. How information is shared

There are already a few tools available to measure collaboration in LTC, but for GR, a suitable instrument is still lacking. Many existing questionnaires are unclear or insufficiently validated. Important to know:
Effective collaboration requires attention to all three areas. There is also an urgent need for a reliable and valid measurement tool. It’s essential that healthcare professionals, patients, and informal caregivers work together effectively and understand one another.

Proud moment: The article by Arno Doornebosch and his research team recently ranked among the top 10 most-read articles in the scientific journal JAMDA. A great recognition of this important topic!
