Our geriatric oncology research group has, in collaboration with the University of Sheffield, recently published a paper on differences in treatment and survival of older patients with breast cancer between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. This paper showed large differences in treatment strategies, but similar survival rates. For the paper in the European Journal of Cancer: click here

PhD candidate Annelieke Lemij will spend six months in the United Kingdom as part of her PhD to further explore these differences. She will also focus on the quality of life of older patients with breast cancer in the two countries, as it is known that older patients may value quality of life over longevity.

This interesting and important fellowship has all been made possible by two recently received research grants: the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and Leids Universiteits Fonds.
